VIENNA, Feb. 7 (Xinhua) -- Two people died amidst turbulent traffic conditions following heavy snow in Austria on Wednesday, according to local media reports.

A 36-year-old female driver was killed in the state of Lower Austria when her car struck a traffic barrier and rolled, ending up on its roof. The driver of a truck following behind was not able to react in time, striking the vehicle.

Another accident occurred in the same state, when an elderly couple crashed into a telephone mast. The man driving the vehicle died, while his wife was seriously injured.

Further traffic accidents and disruptions were caused on roads particularly in the nation's east and south due to the snow, according to reports.

In the state of Styria, 750 fire brigade personnel were on duty for recovery efforts that were mostly related to vehicles. Two stretches of the autobahn network in the state were affected by the snow, leading to traffic jams.

Similar disruptions were reported in the states of Burgenland and Carinthia.
