WASHINGTON, Feb. 9 (Xinhua) -- A person was killed on Friday in a shooting at a veterans nursing home in the southeastern U.S. state of Georgia, local authorities said.

The Richmond County coroner confirmed one person was dead following the shooting at the Georgia War Veterans Nursing Home, which is located next to Augusta University's campus.

Augusta University tweeted around 12:10 p.m. that the shooting was "targeted" and appeared to have stemmed from a domestic violence incident.

"We are no longer treating this as an active shooter incident," said the tweet. "There is no longer a need to shelter in place."

The shooter, who was not immediately identified, was currently at large, the university said.

The nursing home, a 192-bed skilled nursing care facility, is operated by the university and the Georgia Department of Veterans Service, according to an Atlanta News report.
