ULAN BATOR, June 12 (Xinhua) -- Mongolia's foreign trade turnover in the first five months of 2018 amounted to 5.1 billion U.S. dollars, up 26.5 percent compared with the same period last year, the country's National Statistics Office said Tuesday.

The landlocked Asian country demonstrated a surplus in its foreign trade balance as exports exceeded imports by over 700 million dollars, the figures showed.

Exports of mineral products, textiles, natural or cultured stones and precious metals accounted for about 95 percent of total exports.

Among its 131 trading partners of the first five months, China was the largest importer of Mongolia's products and services, it said.

China is Mongolia's biggest trade partner and a major foreign investor. Bilateral trade grew 36 percent to reach 6.7 billion dollars in 2017, accounting for 63 percent of Mongolia's total trade. The two sides have upped the ante, raising the target to 10 billion dollars by 2020.
