NEW DELHI, July 28 (Xinhua) -- Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi returned home Saturday morning after wrapping up his five-day Africa tour, during which he attended the BRICS summit in South Africa.

"Gratitude to President @CyrilRamaphosa and the people of South Africa for the excellent organisation of the BRICS Summit. The deliberations in the Summit were fruitful. I also got the opportunity to interact with other world leaders and discuss bilateral relations," he tweeted.

Modi's first stop was Rwanda, where he held talks with the country's President Paul Kagame. He also witnessed the inking of several pacts between the two countries and interacted with the Indian community in capital Kigali.

His two-day Rwanda visit was the first-ever by an Indian prime minister.

From Rwanda, the Indian premier flew to Uganda. Apart from holding talks with Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni in the capital Kampala, Modi addressed the country's Parliament.

His last stop was South Africa, where he attended the BRICS summit and interacted with several world leaders on the sidelines.

At the summit, Modi stressed on the need for BRICS cooperation for global portable social security framework intended to benefit nearly 215 million people who were working outside their nations, according to the Indian External Affairs Ministry. Enditem
