PHNOM PENH, Aug. 4 (Xinhua) -- Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen on Saturday called on more foreign tourists and investors to visit the Southeast Asian country.

"Cambodia ensures safety and welcomes tourists and traders who want to visit and invest in the country without disappointing them," he wrote on his official Facebook page.

Tourism and foreign direct investment significantly contributed to economic development in the nation.

According to government figures, the country received nearly 2.6 million international visitors in the first five months of 2018, up 13.5 percent year-on-year, while it attracted the fixed asset investment of 3.5 billion U.S. dollars in the first six months of this year, up 14 percent year-on-year.

The 66-year-old prime minister also thanked the Cambodian people for voting for the ruling Cambodian People's Party (CPP) in Sunday's general election, saying that the CPP's victory gave him an opportunity to continue to lead and further develop the country.

Twenty political parties contested in the sixth general election on July 29.

The National Election Committee's preliminary results indicated that the CPP won the election, receiving 4.87 million votes, or 76.78 percent, of the total valid votes.

According to the calculation table by the CPP based on the NEC's preliminary results, the CPP won all 125 seats in the parliament.

With the landslide victory, Hun Sen, who has been in power for 33 years, will continue to lead the government for another five years.

The prime minister said on Thursday that the new government will be formed on Sept. 20.
