ISLAMABAD, Oct. 27 (Xinhua) -- Six people, including five personnel of the paramilitary Levies Force, were injured in a bomb blast targeting the convoy of a senior government official in Pakistan's southwest Balochistan province on Monday, local officials said.

The explosion occurred in Turbat city of Kech district when a remote-controlled device planted in a motorcycle was detonated as the convoy of Deputy Commissioner Major (retired) Bashir Barech passed by, officials from the Levies Control Room Turbat told Xinhua.

Five Levies personnel and a passerby were injured in the attack, said a spokesperson for Rescue 1122, adding that the injured were shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The deputy commissioner remained unhurt, though one of the vehicles in his convoy was severely damaged, according to the Levies officials.

Security forces and police cordoned off the area following the explosion and launched a search operation, the officials added. ■
