NAIROBI, May 8 (Xinhua) -- Algerian giants USM Algiers have taken a commanding lead in their CAF Confederations Cup group, and will be keen to extend the lead when they meet Kenya's Gor Mahia in Nairobi on May 16.

USM Algiers, who are among the four CAF Confederation Cup top seeds, were favored to beat Young Africans of Tanzania in Algiers, but the wide Group D winning margin was surprising given the vast international experience of the Dar es Salaam outfit.

Rayon Sport of Rwanda and Gor Mahia, making their debut in the competition, battled to a 1-1 draw in soggy Kigali pitch.

Uganda-born Rwanda international Meddie Kagere put Gor ahead on 10 minutes and Eric Rutanga levelled midway through the first half.

But Gor Mahia coach Dylan Kerr will rue a yellow card his scorer picked as he will miss the match against USM Algiers.

"It is a loss, and we must look deep in our reservoirs and see who we will call upon to take over his place. Gor Mahia are adopting well to this competition and will surprise many teams," Kerr said on Tuesday.

Kagere will miss the second CAF Confederations Cup Group D encounter against USM Algiers having picked a yellow card suspension.

After the round one matches, USM Algiers top Group D on three points while Gor Mahia are tied with Rayon Sports on one point each. The Young Africans are last without a point.

Gor Mahia will also have to play against English Championship side Hull City who will tour Kenya on May 1. Hull City are expected in the country on May 11 for a five day tour.
