JOHANNESBURG, July 17 (Xinhua) -- An exhibition featuring Chinese porcelain's journey along the Silk Road opened Tuesday at Museum Africa in Johannesburg.

A total of 160 pieces of porcelain were on display, showing the historical footprint of the proud products of Jingdezhen, China's "porcelain capital," from ordinary quarters to royal courts and from East Asia to northern Europe.

In addition to the exhibits, visitors could also enjoy music played on porcelain instruments and observe performances by artisans.

Zhong Zhisheng, secretary of Jingdezhen Municipal Party Committee, told the opening ceremony that porcelains are part of Chinese culture, and the input of porcelain opened a beautiful chapter in the dialogue between China and Africa.

He expressed the hope that the exhibition will enable "African friends to feel the unique charm of Jingdezhen ceramics and the profoundness of Chinese culture."

South African Deputy Minister of Arts and Culture Makhotso Magdeline Sotyu said the exhibition "offers an opportunity to delve into history and significance of the various aspects of this rich tradition."

"Let us think how we can use this as a catalyst to providing our practitioners with opportunities to share knowledge and expertise," Sotyu added.
