SAN FRANCISCO, July 22 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese women's sevens lost 38-0 to Fiji to finish 12th at the Rugby World Cup Sevens 2018 here on Saturday.

The Chinese women's team ran into trouble only a few minutes into the game, when one of their players was injured and had to be stretchered off.

They tried hard to penetrate the defense line of the Fiji sevens, who proved too strong and led the first half 17-0 with several tries.

The Chinese women continued their attempt to get some points in the second half, but could not tear apart Fiji's defense who led till the final minute to secure a 38-0 victory.

Fiji finished 11th in the 2018 Rugby World Cup Sevens, followed by China in the 12th place.

China knocked out South Africa 29-5 in the Challenge Quarterfinals on Friday, but lost to England 38-0 in the Challenge Semifinals Saturday morning.

Defending champions New Zealand beat first-time finalists France 29-0 to claim women's title with France seizing the second place, after New Zealand dismissed hosts U.S. sevens in the semifinals earlier in the day.

All women's teams from 16 countries and regions completed their games Saturday at the 2018 Rugby World Cup Sevens which is held from July 20 to 22. Men's final will take place on Sunday.
