PHNOM PENH, Aug. 16 (Xinhua) -- Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen has expressed his full commitment to work closely with China after his ruling Cambodian People's Party (CPP) won a sweeping victory in a recent general election.

In a thankful letter released late Wednesday in response to Chinese President Xi Jinping's congratulatory message on the CPP victory, Hun Sen showed his full commitment to work closely with Xi to promote party-to-party, government-to-government and people-to-people exchanges.

He also vowed to enhance the bonds of fraternal friendship and comprehensive strategic partnership of cooperation between Cambodia and China for the benefits of the two nations and for peace and shared prosperity of the region and beyond.

The CPP won all 125 parliamentary seats in the sixth general election on July 29, according to National Election Committee (NEC) official results released on Wednesday.

Twenty political parties contested in the election. The NEC indicated that the CPP garnered 4.88 million votes, or 76.84 percent, of the total valid votes.

Hun Sen said the election which proceeded peacefully, freely, orderly and in a transparent manner was successfully organized thanks to a large contribution from the Chinese government.

"China has not only provided generous assistance for the election process, but also sent the largest ever group of observers to witness this crucial event in my country, for which we are profoundly grateful," the 67-year-old Cambodian prime minister said in the letter.

He said the remarkable socio-economic progress seen in Cambodia today also owed a great deal to the enormous support from China.

He said on Wednesday that a new parliament and a new government will be formed on Sept. 5 and Sept. 6, respectively.
