NEW DELHI, Oct. 1 (Xinhua) -- The southwest monsoon season which brings most of the annual rainfall in India during June-September has come to an end recording nine percent deficient in the rainfall, officials said Monday.

The Meteorological department said, overall the country received 91 percent rain of the Long Period Average (LPA), which falls under the below normal category.

"The four-month long southwest monsoon 2018 has officially come to an end on Sunday, with the country recording a nine per cent deficit in rainfall," an official said. "The countrywide cumulative rainfall for the overall season from June 1 to September 30 was recorded at 804 mm against the normal rains of 887.5 mm. Thus, overall, the country recorded 84 mm less rains than normal."

According to official records this is the second year in a row that the monsoon ended with below normal rain.

The states that recorded maximum deficiency are Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal and India's northeast.

However, Kerala this year received an unprecedented rain during the monsoon triggering one of the worst flooding in a century in the state.

Though monsoon have officially come to an end, however, several southern states, Goa and Maharashtra are expected to receive rainfall this week.

Officials said of the 36 meteorological subdivisions 24 have received normal rainfall this year.
