WASHINGTON, Nov. 27 (Xinhua) -- U.S. e-commerce giant Amazon on Tuesday announced that Cyber Monday was the single biggest shopping day in the company's history, with more products ordered than any other day.

Customers worldwide ordered more than 18 million toys and more than 13 million fashion items on Black Friday and Cyber Monday combined, the company said, though not disclosing revenue from the shopping holidays.

Throughout the five shopping days starting with Thanksgiving and continuing through Cyber Monday, Amazon customers ordered more than 180 million items, the company said. The best-selling products included the all-new Echo Dot smart speaker, "Becoming" by Michelle Obama, the Amazon Smart Plug, and the L.O.L. Surprise Series toys.

Overall, U.S. shoppers spent about 7.9 billion U.S. dollars on Cyber Monday, up 19.7 percent over last year, said Adobe Analytics, which tracks 80 percent of online transactions at 100 of the largest retailers in the United States.

For the shopping season so far, consumers have spent 58.5 billion dollars online, up 19.9 percent, Adobe said. For the whole holiday season, which will last until end of December, online sales could hit a record 124 billion dollars, up by 15 percent from last year.

Figures from market research firm eMarketer put overall U.S. holiday online sales at around 123 billion dollars, which will make up 12 percent of the estimated 1 trillion retail sales for this holiday shopping season.

Amazon is set to continue its dominance in U.S. e-commerce sales in 2018, with sales expected to reach 252 billion dollars, or 48 percent of total U.S. online sales, according to a study by eMarketer. EBay, Walmart and Apple will follow, with estimated e-commerce sales share of 7.2 percent, 4 percent and 3.9 percent, respectively.
