CANBERRA, Feb. 26 (Xinhua) -- Data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) has revealed that unemployed people who move are more likely to find work.

According to the ABS, 64 percent of people who moved around regions in search of work between 2011 and 2016 were successful compared to 57 percent of people who stayed put.

The data was gathered from a series of interactive maps released by the ABS on Tuesday that allow viewers to explore the employment status of people in any region in-depth.

"We have looked at longitudinal Census data over five years to look at the employment status of people who move region compared to those who do not," Celia Moss, Manager of the ABS Data Integration Partnerships Program, said in a media release.

In addition to providing new data on the unemployed population and their job hunt, the maps also allow for in-depth analysis of the employed population's movements.

"Taking a look at the employed people living in the Greater Melbourne area in 2011, we know 94 percent were living in this same region in 2016 and 88 percent of them were employed in 2016," Moss said.

"Of those 42,000 people who had moved from Greater Melbourne to regional Victoria by 2016, around 80 percent were employed," Moss added.
