NAIROBI, March 11 (Xinhua) -- TAILG Group, a leading Chinese manufacturer of electric bicycles and motorbikes on Monday signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) to promote clean mobility in the eastern African region.

The signing ceremony was held on the sidelines of the ongoing fourth session of the UN Environment Assembly in Nairobi.

"We have established a strategic partnership with UNEP to promote clean mobility through use of two and three wheels machines," said Yao Li, chief executive officer of TAILG Group.

He said the partnership deal with UNEP will have positive impact on air quality and the economies in the global south.

TAILG and UNEP in 2018 agreed to partner on the electric mobility program that aims to find innovative solutions to environmental challenges like air pollution and carbon emission.

Yao said that his company is keen to share its expertise in production of electric bicycles and motorcycles to boost adoption of emission-free and cheaper modes of transportation in Africa.

"Electric mobility will guarantee the world a sustainable future and African countries should embrace them to help reduce on consumption of fossil fuels that are responsible for carbon emissions," said Yao.

He said that TAILG's flagship electric two and three-wheel machines have a huge presence in North Africa and plans are afoot to tap into the eastern African region.

David Rubia, project manager of electric mobility and motorcycles at UNEP hailed the partnership with TAILG, saying it was a milestone in the global clean mobility agenda.

"Motorcycles are helping us fight pollutants and carbon emissions," Rubia said, noting that the partnership will help educate local communities on health and economic benefits of clean mobility.
