URUMQI, May 21 (Xinhua) -- Anargul Ablimit is quite satisfied with her life now, which features a well-equipped house in a residential area of the county seat, stable job for her and her husband and free education for the children.

Two years ago, the family lived in a shabby house in a village of Bachu County, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. As the village sits on the edge of the Taklimakan Desert, the couple could hardly make ends meet by toiling in the barren farmland.

In 2017 amid the efforts to alleviate poverty, the county started to relocate the poverty-stricken households from remote areas to the newly-built Xingfuyuan residential area in the county.

Besides adequate medical and education resources, the residential community has also brought in garment processing and facility agriculture factories and organized technical training for the relocated residents, with the aim to help them find jobs or start their own businesses.

Anargul Ablimit, together with her husband and two children, moved to a 68 square meter house in the community in August 2017. Now she works in the modern agricultural industrial park of the community, and her husband works in the Bachu train station.

Since April 2017, a total of 813 households from 10 townships have been relocated to Xingfuyuan.

Relocating poor households to places with better conditions has been an important part of Xinjiang's poverty alleviation work.

The regional authorities said that as of the end of 2018, a total of 140,000 poverty-stricken people in the region were relocated. Another 21,000 people will be relocated this year.
